Cultural product ranges have to be designed for the shop, not just the gallery: price points, packaging, boxed sets and the ability to restock. We design and produce the range as a commercial proposition.

Commissioned work in cultural-creative products normally runs from 6 to 30 m², with 3–8 working days in production from approved drawings. The reference range for this technique is CNY 80+ per m², quoted itemised. It sits within our 3D Printing & Digital Fabrication capability, alongside 9 related techniques, and the 4-point deliverable below is what a commission includes as standard.

When cultural-creative products is the right answer - and when it is not

Cultural and creative product is chosen where a collection, a place or a story should become something a visitor can take home. It suits museums, heritage sites, tourism destinations and cultural institutions. The design test is not whether the object is beautiful in isolation but whether it carries enough of the place's meaning that someone who was not there still wants it, and whether it can be sold at a price the shop can actually achieve.

How the work is actually carried out

The starting point is the collection or the story: the specific object, motif or narrative that gives the product its reason to exist. That is then translated into a product form that suits the material and the retail price point, rather than forcing a form and adding the story afterwards. Prototypes are produced and costed at the retail margin before the range is committed, since cultural retail fails more often on price than on design. Packaging carries the interpretation, and the range is designed to sit together on a shelf as a set.

Reference price bands for Cultural-creative products

Indicative only, based on the scope normally quoted for cultural-creative products. A firm price follows a site survey and an itemised quotation split into material, labour, finishing, packing and freight.

Build tiers for cultural-creative products

Cultural-creative products is not one product at one size: the table below is the same scope ladder we quote on, so you can see where your project sits before asking for a price.

What we deliver

  • Digital modelling from sketches, scans or reference images
  • Large-format printing, section splitting and structural joining
  • Sanding, priming, painting and surface texturing

Faults we see most often in cultural-creative products

Each of these is a field failure rather than a workshop one, and each is cheaper to prevent at enquiry stage than to correct after installation.

  • Designing products that could belong to any museum, losing the specific thing that makes the collection worth carrying home.
  • Committing to a range before costing it against the shop's retail margin, which is where cultural product ranges most often fail.
  • Designing objects without their packaging, when the packaging carries the interpretation and much of the perceived value.

What to settle before an overseas project starts

The collection or storyTell us what the products must carry - a specific object, a place, a narrative. Specificity is what makes cultural product sell.
Retail price pointTell us the target retail price and the shop's margin. The form and the material both follow from the achievable cost.
Display and setSend the shelf or cabinet dimensions. Ranges read as sets, and the sizes should be designed to sit together.

Common questions

Do you design the range or only produce it?
Either. We can develop the range from the collection or site, or produce to designs supplied by you or your studio.
What is the minimum order?
It varies by process. Low-volume resin and print runs are viable; metal and injection tooling need higher quantities to make sense.
What is the maximum size of a single printed part?
Single parts are limited by printer capacity and are therefore printed in sections and joined. The overall size of the finished piece is effectively unrestricted; the joints are planned to fall on geometric edges.
