Prop and display work is a deadline business: the shape has to be right and the schedule is fixed by the shoot or the launch. Printing and CNC let us deliver complex geometry in days rather than weeks.

Commissioned work in film props & display stands normally runs from 6 to 30 m², with 3–9 working days in production from approved drawings. The reference range for this technique is CNY 80+ per m², quoted itemised. It sits within our 3D Printing & Digital Fabrication capability, alongside 9 related techniques, and the 4-point deliverable below is what a commission includes as standard.

When film props & display stands is the right answer - and when it is not

Printed props and exhibition pieces are chosen where a form must be produced quickly for a defined run, in a shape that conventional fabrication would make slowly or expensively. They suit exhibitions, filming, events, theatre and display. The material choice is driven by how long the piece must last and how much it will be handled, which ranges from a single day's shooting to a permanent display.

How the work is actually carried out

The design is fixed against the shooting or exhibition brief, and the piece is sectioned for printing and assembling at the size required. Materials range from low-cost, quick prints for single-use pieces through to reinforced systems for pieces that are handled repeatedly or displayed indefinitely. Surfaces are finished to the standard the viewing distance requires, and fixing points are designed in rather than improvised on site. Where a piece must be reused, it is designed to be assembled and dismantled without damage.

What we deliver

  • Digital modelling from sketches, scans or reference images
  • Large-format printing, section splitting and structural joining
  • Sanding, priming, painting and surface texturing
  • Master-pattern printing for subsequent casting

Faults we see most often in film props & display stands

Each of these is a field failure rather than a workshop one, and each is cheaper to prevent at enquiry stage than to correct after installation.

  • Using the cheapest print for a piece that will be handled or displayed for months, where it will fail visibly.
  • Improvising fixing points on site, which is where most props break during a run.
  • Designing a piece that cannot be taken apart when storage and reuse were in the brief from the start.

What to settle before an overseas project starts

Lifetime requiredOne shoot, one season or permanent. It determines the material and the surface finish completely and honestly.
Handling and loadTell us if people will touch, carry or lean on it. Fixings and reinforcement are designed for that.
Storage and reuseTell us if the piece is stored between uses so it can be designed to come apart and go back together.

Common questions

Can you guarantee a shoot date?
For straightforward shapes, yes. Hand-finishing and painting are the variable steps, so we confirm the schedule against the finish you need rather than the print time alone.
Do you handle large set pieces?
Yes, built in sections for transport and assembled on set, with the seams finished on location by our own crew.
What is the maximum size of a single printed part?
Single parts are limited by printer capacity and are therefore printed in sections and joined. The overall size of the finished piece is effectively unrestricted; the joints are planned to fall on geometric edges.
