A shopfront wall is seen in passing, at an angle and often in poor light. We design for those conditions: bold shapes, high contrast and materials chosen for rain, sun and street grime rather than showroom conditions.
Commissioned work in shopfront & brand wall normally runs from 4 to 23 m², with 5–10 working days in production from approved drawings. The reference range for this technique is CNY 150–600 per m², quoted itemised. It sits within our Wall Painting & Murals capability, alongside 12 related techniques, and the 4-point deliverable below is what a commission includes as standard.
When shopfront & brand wall is the right answer - and when it is not
A shopfront or entrance wall has one job: make the right person stop. It is read in motion, from a distance and usually in poor light, so the design has to be legible in three seconds rather than satisfying at arm's length. It suits premises with passing traffic and a clear offer. It is the wrong place for subtle work, and the wrong place for anything that cannot be cleaned, because street-facing surfaces collect everything the road throws at them.
How the work is actually carried out
We design to the approach: which direction people move, how fast, and at what distance the sign first becomes readable. Type is sized from that distance, not from taste, and the contrast ratio is set against the actual facade colour. Materials are chosen for weathering and for the local climate - UV-stable pigments, sealed or anti-graffiti finishes on street-facing walls, and fixings that will not stain the render as they age. Illumination, if used, is planned with the artwork rather than bolted on afterwards.

Faults we see most often in shopfront & brand wall
Each of these is a field failure rather than a workshop one, and each is cheaper to prevent at enquiry stage than to correct after installation.
- Sizing type on a screen, which produces signage that is unreadable from the pavement where it actually lives.
- Ignoring the direction of approach, so the entrance reads well from the wrong side of the street.
- Using an unsealed finish on a street-facing wall, which collects grime in the texture and greys out within a year.
What to settle before an overseas project starts
| Approach and speed | Send a photograph from the direction most customers approach, at the distance where you want the sign to register. That single shot sets the type size. |
|---|---|
| Facade condition | Note render, cladding or stone, its state, and any damp or cracking. Fixings and preparation follow from it. |
| Local rules | Many councils and landlords control signage size, illumination and colour. Confirm what is permitted before design, not after. |
